Is Hydration Really That Important?

Listen, I get it.

Hydration seems like the Core area that could be left behind, the one that’s not as important as the others.

Between you and me, there are days I try to convince myself of this too, especially when I’m craving a root beer.

But try working out, sleeping, or doing anything physical when you’re hydrated – it’s amazing. It’s like in a video game when you use a cheat code for enhanced powers except this is real life and it’s actually decently easy to do.

Why water is important

We have different systems that make up our whole body, and these systems work together to allow us to function. We have our nervous system, muscular system, digestive system, cardiovascular system, etc.

Being dehydrated is like trying to run a car, but you’re missing oil, have little coolant, and a tire is missing. With scarce resources, it won’t perform as well as it could. Don’t make all the different systems in your body fight for scarce water resources. They all need water to be at their best – give them all enough!

Is Hydration Really That Important?

Yes. Yes it is.

Like many things in life, doing the small things well – the things that most people skip over – will take you from good to elite. I like thinking of hydration as a cheat code of life. It immediately makes you feel more energized, which then improves, well, everything. Whether your goal is elite performance or simply living a healthy life, skipping past hydration is a vital mistake.

Put down that teeth-rotting soda and that disgusting wheat sludge that has bubbles in it for some reason and get to hydrating! (I’m kidding, other drinks are totally fine as long as we get enough plain ol’ water too. I’d argue that treating ourselves on occasion is actually conducive to making healthy change so that we don’t feel restricted.) Cheers!
