While a fine salad dressing, I prefer this homemade blue cheese dressing as a dipping sauce for meats and veggies. Chunky, creamy, salty, and heavy on the cheese, this is a hearty, full-flavored dressing.
A very simple recipe, the only technique to be mindful of is to mix all the other ingredients first, then crumble in the cheese to end up with big chunks swirling through the final product. Texture makes food fun!
Notes:
- Swap yogurt for more sour cream and cut out the vinegar for less tang.
- You can add some milk if you like a thinner dressing.
- Hot sauce is optional, but adds a nice kick. Add it before seasoning with salt as lots of hot sauces are loaded with salt.
- Excellent with a steak or sneaked into your favorite local restaurant for buffalo wings – you didn’t hear it from me.
Homemade Blue Cheese Dressing
Ingredients
- 1/4 Cup Mayo
- 1/4 Cup Sour Cream
- 2 Tablespoons Plain Yogurt
- 1 Tablespoon Lemon Juice
- 1 teaspoon White Vinegar
- 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
- 1 teaspoon Hot Sauce (Optional)
- A few dashes Milk (Optional)
- 3/4 Cup Blue Cheese Crumbled
- Salt and Pepper
Instructions
- Thoroughly mix all ingredients except blue cheese.
- Crumble in blue cheese and gently stir to combine. We want big chunks of blue cheese, so adding it in last will keep us from breaking up those chunks! I like to gently break it up with a fork while stirring until I achieve the consistency I want. You can also use pre-crumbled blue cheese to make things easier!
- Season with salt and pepper. The cheese will add lots of salt – taste first so you don't over season!
- Really, that's it. Pretty simple, eh?
